Wishing our new president the BEST OF LUCK for everyone's sake! I missed the inaugural speech in the live broadcast today, knowing full well , the highlights would be replayed all day। When I did get in front of the tv, one of the first images I caught was Luke Russert doing his thing, interviewing the "man on the street" (haven't heard that phrase in a while). He stood in front of a huge rollout sign that said, "What a country", apparently a tagline of his dad's. Hundreds of people had signed it and noted their homestates. I welled up as he spoke of his father's spirit all around him today. I remember his first tv interview after his father died last summer. Matt Lauer was asking him how he was holding up. This was before the funeral, maybe the day after his father's passing. An only child and a brand new graduate of BC, I was so impressed by this young man's composure and eloquence. I told my husband we have not seen the last of him. He had a very natural gift to touch his audience as I believe his father did, although I am not a political junkie so I've had very little exposure to Tim Russert.Much has been said about Obama's appeal to our nation's youth. We need them more than ever to find innovative ways to get around the problems we face today. They say he is our first internet president. I know this will force me to pay more attention to the state of the nation. I never really watched the local or the national news. I look forward to the vitality and hope President Obama brings to his office and to our nation. Here's to a new day!
